Ypsilanti, Michigan Automotive I'm interested in how the mass properties role changes given the vast differences between different industries. the Mass Growth Allowance methodology is overall correct but how does its execution actually play out in different industries? I'm well versed in weight engineering from an Automotive industry perspective but how are targets set for other industries? for both CoG and MoI? How would I calculate MoI from just BOM data with CG data against part masses? (Transform function given the CoG of the data rollup?) What do milestones look like for other industries? What do audits/verifications look like? What are the consequences of getting it wrong? One current problem that's making my head scratch is how to calculate Pitch, Yaw and Roll of a vehicle only using BoM data. Up till now, I had always collected that information experimentally. IE. Strapping a vehicle to VIMF equipment, Ratcheting the suspension so that ride height is nominal and then swing testing the vehicle to gather the CoG and MoI data. Masters of Engineering - Mechanical engineering - Material Science lab work. Award from Ford. English and an Indian language. Available after work, Mon-Fridays.
